This book gives our foreign visitors an overview of how science education is structured in the Federal Republic of Germany and what developments are taking place in the schools.

We begin with an overview of the German school system with regard to science education. Topics covered include questions of the institutional framework, the structure of the school system and the locus of science education in the curriculum.

We then touch on the conceptions of science education as reflected in the German state laws, educational acts and syllabus preambles. Finally we look at the science curricula in the primary to upper secondary level and teacher education in more detail.
